Filler Dissolving: The Part Nobody Talks About (But Everyone Should Know)
Filler is usually sold as a simple, reversible treatment. But almost nobody explains what “reversible” actually involves. Here’s what you should know before you start, or if you’re already unhappy with your filler.
What is filler dissolving?
Filler dissolving uses an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which is injected into the filler to break it down. It’s the standard way to reverse hyaluronic acid filler.
Why do people dissolve filler?
The most common reasons are:
- Lumps or uneven areas
- Asymmetry
- Overfilled areas
- Filler that has moved from where it was placed (migrated)
Dissolving is also the emergency treatment for vascular occlusion, which is when filler blocks a blood vessel. It’s rare, but it’s one of the reasons anyone injecting filler should be trained and equipped to dissolve it.
What to expect afterwards
Some swelling, tenderness or bruising is common in the first few days. The filler breaks down over the following days, and some people need a follow-up appointment to get the result they want.
Why we use ultrasound before dissolving
Filler can sit deeper or spread wider than it looks on the surface. Ultrasound lets us see where it is, how much there is and how deep it sits, so we dissolve only what’s needed, in the right place.
Dissolving needs caution
Too much hyaluronidase can harm tissue, and the risk is higher as you get older. That’s why experience matters. In the right hands, dissolving is routine and nothing to worry about.
Corrections are normal
Dissolving and correcting is part of what we do. If you’re unhappy with your filler, you don’t have to live with it. Bodies aren’t perfect, and neither are we.
Know what you’re signing up for
Filler can come with issues, and sometimes dissolving. If you’re not comfortable with that possibility, filler isn’t for you. We’d rather you know that before you start than after.
Our dissolving rate: 1.5%
Around 1.5% of the time, we dissolve our own work. That’s unusual, but we won’t tell you it’s never.
Unhappy with your filler?
If you’re considering dissolving, or you’re not sure whether your filler needs correcting, we’re happy to take a look.
